While some of the class were in Amsterdam, I focused on some Hotel Designs which Patricia had been involved with. One hotel I looked at was the Mandarin Hotel in Barcelona, Spain. This hotel includes some funky patterns and designs, that can almost be a representation of the nature outside in that environment. She created lots of wall features within the hotel and these reminded me of a child’s design of the paper snowflake. It looks so simplistic yet it is incredibly artistic and has enormeous depth as the patters are shared around the hotel in different areas (rooms, lobby, toilets, bar, restaurant.) The brown wood colours tie together with the more neutral colours within the design. I personally love this hotel design and feel like the whole hotel fits together and this is down to the art that Patricia created throughout the hotel.
